Therapy Basics
-
Many people begin therapy because they're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected, stuck in recurring patterns, or simply ready for something to feel different. You don't need a diagnosis or a major crisis to benefit from therapy. Therapy can support self-understanding, healing, personal growth, relationship challenges, life transitions, and emotional well-being.
-
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, your goals, your history, and any questions you may have. There's no pressure to share everything immediately- we move at a pace that feels comfortable and collaborative.
-
Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and create consistency. As therapy progresses, some choose to move to biweekly or maintenance sessions. Together, we'll determine a schedule that supports your goals and needs.
-
Therapy looks different for everyone. Some people seek short-term support around a specific concern, while others engage in longer-term therapy for deeper healing and personal growth. We regularly check in about your goals and adjust the process as needed.
EMDR & Trauma Therapy
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy approach designed to help people process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories. EMDR can help the brain reprocess experiences that may still feel emotionally overwhelming, allowing healing to occur without repeatedly reliving painful events.
-
Not at all. Many people benefit from EMDR even if they don't identify with the word "trauma." EMDR can be helpful for anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, low self-worth, difficult life experiences, relationship wounds, grief, and chronic stress.
-
Yes. Many forms of anxiety are connected to past experiences, beliefs, or nervous system responses that continue to influence how we move through the world. EMDR can help address the underlying experiences contributing to anxiety while building a greater sense of safety and confidence.
-
Yes. EMDR can be effectively provided through secure telehealth sessions. We use adaptations specifically designed for virtual therapy while maintaining the same evidence-based principles that make EMDR effective.
LGBTQIA+ & Neurodivergent Affirming Care
-
Affirming therapy recognizes and respects your identity, lived experiences, and humanity. Rather than viewing differences as problems to be fixed, affirming therapy creates space for exploration, healing, self-understanding, and empowerment.
-
